SUWANEE KIWANIS CLUB HISTORY

Our club began meeting in 1995 and was chartered in April 1996 with 25 members- 3 are still active members today.   Our first fundraiser was a trash and treasure sale in the Kroger parking lot on Peachtree Ind. Blvd. That is where our then president, Steve Agee found a picture of an old rooster. He began ‘presenting’ it to certain members as a humorous gesture that livened up many meetings.

Our club has had many projects, fundraisers and partnered with many organizations.    We have purchased dictionaries, remodeled basketball courts, picked up trash on the side of Peachtree Industrial and many fundraisers.  For a number of years, we had a dunk tank at Suwanee Days and dunked many mayors, teachers and other Suwanee folks, all in the name of a good cause.  Our fundraisers ranged from selling onions and cotton candy to Golf tournaments to 5Ks.    Our club also helped build PlayTown Suwanee logging over 200 volunteer hours.

There have been some memorable moments in our club.  Once the current police Chief, Mike Boyd was our program speaker and while passing around some of the items his police force used on a daily basis, one member handcuffed another to the table.  The Chief had us all convinced that he did not have the key too.

Our speakers have included Dan Reeves, Joe DeCamillis, Danny Porter, Rob Woodall, many influential community leaders and interesting people.  Our speakers have been informative, educational and /or entertaining.

Through the years, The Kiwanis Club of Suwanee has made the city of Suwanee, Gwinnett County, Georgia and the world a much better place!
